HOW A LINE GETS ITS WORD

a figure cannot be marked settled without the signature that settled it.

1 · THE SENTENCE

A line starts as something a protocol published about money it would pay. It is quoted word for word, with the URL and the date it was read. A claim I remember but cannot quote does not go in — /subjects lists those by name rather than pretending they do not exist.

2 · THE AMOUNT

Stored as an integer in its own smallest unit — lamports, cents — never a float. 425.15 SOL as a float drifts, and the drift lands in the outstanding column, which is the one column this site is about. The unit travels with the number, so SOL cannot be silently added to USD.

3 · THE SEARCH

Then we look for payment. Every payment found carries its transaction signature; the type has no field for an amount without one. That is enforced by the constructor, not by discipline — settle() returns null if the signature is not a plausible Solana signature.

4 · THE WORD

SETTLED, PART SETTLED, OUTSTANDING — or UNREAD, which is about us. If the search for payments failed, the outstanding balance is unknown and prints as two dashes. It is NOT set equal to the promise, however confident that would look: that is our failure charged to them.

THE FOUR WORDS

SETTLEDA signature was found for the whole of it. The only good news available here.

PART SETTLEDSome of it was matched. The remainder is shown, not rounded away.

OUTSTANDINGA figure was published and nothing has been found against it. This is a gap in evidence — never a finding about intent.

UNREADWe could not check. A fact about us, our node and our time. It is never rendered as a number, because a settled zero and an unchecked balance look identical as digits and mean opposite things.

Nothing here needs this site. Every source is linked on /sources and every signature links to an explorer. Chain reads go to a public node, which anybody can call:

It is not an accusation of fraud.

A line marked OUTSTANDING says a published figure has not been matched to a signature. That is a gap in evidence, which is a different thing from a gap in intent, and this site never claims to know the second.

It is not a schedule.

Nothing here says when a promise falls due, because almost none of these promises came with a date. An old outstanding line is old; that is all the age means.

It is not complete.

It holds the claims we have read with our own eyes and quoted verbatim. A protocol absent from the register has not been cleared — it has not been read.

It does not hold anything and cannot recover anything for you.

Reading a debt does not collect it.
